Though born in India, Dr. Hameed Khan was formally educated in England.  Under the tutelage of Dr. Walter Ross at the Royal Cancer Hospital, a postgraduate medical center of the University of London, he earned a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry.

During his doctoral program, he synthesized 91 drugs to down regulate oncogenes that cause cancers in experimental animals, including a novel drug named CB 1954 that eliminates a solid tumor in Wistar rats.
He worked on a ten-year project that started at the Royal Cancer Hospital and completed at the National Cancer Institute, NIH.   During the ten-year period, he made over 200 drugs that deactivate oncognes that cause cancers.
Forty-five of those drugs are considered valuable enough to be patented by NIH. One of the compounds that he developed during this time frame, AZQ, Aziridinyl Quinone, U.S. patent no. 4,146,622 is currently used for treating malignant giloma for which he receives a 17-year royalty.
